The Character Generator 2.0 is a remake of the original Character Generator, it's a tool to aid in making characters from the Modern Interiors Asset Pack

Feature Highlights:

  • Create your own characters by combining different pieces together with a simple user interface.

  •  Randomize Your Character - Not sure what kind of character you want? Just randomize it and see what you get! Or only randomize specific parts of your character.

  • History - Every modification you make to your character is saved so you can go back to it at any time. Along with that your last 30 saved characters are also saved.

  • Children! - No other character generator has added support to create child characters despite all the sprites for them existing. Well that all changes cause the Character Generator 2.0 has full support to create child characters.

hey there! this is a super helpful tool, but i'm finding that it's SUPER tedious and difficult to go through the dropdowns one by one when there are no descriptive titles and thus no way to tell what's what without looking at all of them one at a time. would a UI that shows previews of the different items be viable?

thank you so much for this!!!

Hey there Courtney! I understand the frustration. Sadly LimeZu didn't include names for each character piece meaning they're only numbered. In the future I'd love to add proper names to each one however I frankly don't have the time nor patience to do it myself.

I'm unsure how a preview would work here. Are you talking about showing the item on the character when you hover over the option in the dropdown? Or including icons of each item in the dropdown that show what they look like? Or something else?

hi there bro, is it possible to have a tommy gun in the animation, so we can have a villain sprite. also do you have a patreon?

Hey Dollarrain, I didn't make the characters, I only made the Character Generator. LimeZu is the one that made the art. Though he's not working on Modern Interiors anymore meaning no new animations will be added anytime soon. Though that could always change in the future. His current focus is Modern Exteriors.

I do not have a Patreon though thanks for asking!

Hi there bro, bro hope you can make a slicer so we can get the SV_Battler for RPG Maker MV. please bro.....

I'm unsure what you mean by SV_Battler since I don't use RPG Maker. However I'm aware that RPG Maker requires sprites to be layed out a specific way to work with the engine. Sadly the Character Generator doesn't have support for this and you'll have to rearrange the characters sprites yourself.

So I have a Mac and couldn't use the character generator. I ended up creating one which will work on all operating systems and would like to send it to you because the assets are yours (it will work with any assets as long as they are aligned). Do you want the source?

thats awesome bro, can i also try it? i mean if its okay with you. thanks in advance bro.

So I ended up making a program to automatically convert the output from Character Generator 2.0 into a Character sprite sheet for use with RPG Maker MZ/MV. You can download it from here: https://cleaveandsmite.itch.io/sprite-cutter-lcr

This looks useful! I'd love to incorporate a button into the Character Generator that saves characters in a different format for use in RPG Maker however I don't know the specifications for how the spritesheet needs to be layed out.

for these sprites, I am using a sheet that is 144X384 and each individual sprite is 48X96. You can see in the attached image which sprites go where and what orientation they need to be.

Hi there, i have tried it and its awesome, but its only working if you saved the file in character generator on 48x48, its not working for 32x32 and 16x16. is it possible to work also on 32x32 and 16x16?

It works with all sizes now.

So is there an easy way to add the outputs to RPG maker without manually cut and pasting a bunch of individual sprites?

I'm afraid not as of now. Though I'm open to adding support for RPG Maker in the future.

I actually made a program for this a little while ago, You can download it from my account. Works for walking animations at the moment.

Hi, i was wondering if it was possible to get a coordinates file for the spritesheet cause it's a bit difficult to import it on unity manually, is there anything like that?

Nothing like that currently exists however there will soon be an update allowing you to export specific animations instead of the entire spritesheet.

I’ve created a tool to speed up the creation of the animations for the spritesheet from this character generator for the Godot game engine.

The code does not reveal the content nor does the repository have spritesheets from the character creator.

Take a look at character-generator-importer-tool

This sounds intriguing however the Github page doesn't appear to be public

Oops sorry, I forgot to change the link as I moved the repository.

Fixed!

Just checked it out, it's obvious you've put a lot of effort into this tool, nicely done!

how can I add outfits from character generator addons? I got the exterior package with the folder  "Character_Generator_Addons_48x48" and want to use these sprite sheets in the character generator

(1 edit)

In case you or anyone else still wants the answer to this question. Find the installation directory of the Character Generator (Defautls to Program Files/Character Generator 2.0), from within there is another folder titled "Character Pieces", in there are all character pieces that the Character Generator uses. Simply add the character pieces from Modern Exteriors to the correct folder.

Note in order for a character piece to be loaded it **must** also have a 16x16 verison. So if you want to use the 32x32 or 48x48 versions you need to also include the 16x16 version for it to appear in the Character Generator.

how would you go about using exported files in a program like rpg maker mv?

(+1)

I second this. I'm using MZ and would like to know how if it's possible to make the site work there

did you manage to make it work?

Apologies I know I'm late to respond to this. RPG Maker requires sprites to be layed out in a specific way to work with the engine. I've never personally used RPG Maker so I'm not familiar with the exact requirements, sadly if you want to use characters from the Character Generator in RPG Maker you'll have to manually change how they're layed out.

In the future I may be able to make a tool/update the Character Generator to make this process automatic.

Thank you from Brasil :)

How do I change the output file path?

There's currently no way to change the output file path. Characters are always stored at "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\LocalLow\<company name>/<application name>".

The folder is always easily accessible within the Character Generator. you can find it either through the info tab > "Saved Characters". Or by clicking the "Open File location" button after saving a character.

Thanks for info. I also noticed the pushing(?) animation's(the one next to the shopping cart) leg animation is a bit off when facing the screen.

The shopping cart animation isn't a preview-able animation in the Character Generator. The closest animation to that one is the pickup animation. Is that the one you're talking about?

Ah sorry for not explaining well. I meant it was next to the shopping cart on the Sprite Sheet. It isn't one of the animations in the Character Generator.

Oh I see what you mean. When you said "A bit off" I thought you were talking about another animation that was already in the Character Generator.

That animation is indeed not in the Character Generator. I was only able to include so many animations to be preview-able due to UI space limitations so I chose the animations I thought were most useful. I also didn't include it because it required another object (The shopping cart) which added another layer of complexity to displaying the animation.

Is there a way to implement this into a Unity Game for a player to customize characters in game?

I'm afraid not. The Character Generator is a standalone application which cannot be added to existing projects. However other's have suggested this in the past and I'm open to looking into it further in the future.

I thought this tool will slice the spritesheet based on specific animation we want :( I like this though, thank you.

Ya a few people have mentioned that. Sadly that adds an additional level of complexity to the tool I'm not prepared to handle yet. Maybe in a future update though!

Just updated the Character Generator a few days ago to add support to export specific animations! Hope this helps.

wow looks really well done

Thx! Ya know I originally used your character generation tool when creating the first Character Generator. Now it's come full circle lol
